Periodic elements include circles, ellipses, and some types of closed b-spline curves. B-spline curves whose start and end points are tangent and connected are considered to be periodic curves.

Because periodic elements have no vertices or endpoints, they do not have a physical start point that can be selected when constructing lofted or swept surfaces.
