Color dialog box

Creates colors that you define by mixing a combination of hue, saturation, and luminosity values or red, green, and blue values. After you click the Define Custom Colors button, the easiest way to experiment with different colors is to press and hold the mouse and move it around on the color matrix.

After you create a color and close the dialog box, the Custom Color Name dialog box appears, allowing you to save the custom color with a name.

Basic Colors

Shows the basic colors available. To define a custom color, you can click the basic colors that is closest to the color you want to define and then click Define Custom Colors.

Custom Colors

Displays any custom colors you have defined. To change the settings for a custom color, you can click a custom color box and then specify a different color. To define a new custom color, click an empty custom color box, specify a new color, and then click Add To Custom Colors.

Define Custom Colors

Expands the dialog box so that you can define a custom color. If this button is not available, you are already viewing custom colors. To define a custom color, you can click in the color matrix, or specify the color using the Hue, Sat (saturation), and Lum (luminosity) boxes. Or, you can use the Red, Green, and Blue boxes. Then, click Add To Custom Colors.

Color Matrix

Displays a color matrix. To define a custom color, you can click anywhere in the matrix and use the slider at the right of the dialog box to adjust the color. If you use the Hue, Sat, and Lum or Red, Green, and Blue boxes to adjust the color, this matrix displays the results of your settings.

The slider to the right of the color matrix displays the possible amounts of white and black in the color. The result of your choice is displayed in the Color/Solid box.

Color/Solid

On the left, shows the amount of color you specified. On the right, shows how the color will look if you choose 100 percent of the color with no white and black. To adjust the color, you can use the slider at the right of the dialog box.

If you change the values for hue, saturation, and luminosity, the values for red, green, and blue are changed to match. If you change the values for red, green, and blue, the values for hue, saturation, and luminosity are changed to match.

Hue

Specifies the hue for the selected custom color. Hue is the value of a color wheel, where 0 is red, 60 is yellow, 120 is green, 180 is cyan, 200 is magenta, and 240 is blue.

Sat

Specifies the saturation level for the selected custom color. Saturation is the amount of color in a specified hue, up to a maximum of 240.

Lum

Specifies the luminosity of the selected custom color. Luminosity is the brightness of the color.

Red

Specifies the amount of red in the selected custom color.

Green

Specifies the amount of green in the selected custom color.

Blue

Specifies the amount of blue in the selected custom color.

Add To Custom Colors

Adds the custom color you have defined to the custom colors palette on the dialog box.
