Data migration configuration

The Data migration commands refer to the following applications:

These data migration tools provide migration for assembly, part, and draft files.

The data migration command assumes that the CAD system that you are migrating from is installed on a computer located on your network. The CAD application can be on the same machine as Solid Edge or on a different machine.

Supported operating systems
Supported software configurations

Note:

You should run the same version of Solid Edge and Solid Edge Data Migration tool. For example, if you are running Solid Edge 64 bit, you should run Solid Edge Data Migration tool 64 bit.

Server application refers to the application from which you are migrating.

Configure data migration

For Solid Edge to communicate with the migrating CAD system you must install a server side application on the same machine that contains the CAD system.

Install a server side application
  1. Insert the Solid Edge DVD into the computer of the migrating CAD system (server machine).

  2. From the Solid Edge DVD, navigate to the Data Migration folder and double-click setup.exe.

  3. Follow the steps of the InstallShield Wizard for Solid Edge Data Migration.

Note:

You should use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel to remove the data migration server software.

Set data migration properties

The Install process builds a distributed program application which can be found in Control Panel/System and Security/Administrative Tools/Component Services/Computers/My Computer/Com+Applications/SEDataMigration.

Enable Distributive Com
  1. Navigate to Control Panel/System and Security/Administrative Tools/Component Services/Computers/My Computer

  2. Right-click and select Review Properties.

  3. On the Default Properties tab, ensure that the Enable Distributed COM on this computer is enabled.

Disable access checks
  1. Navigate to Control Panel/System and Security/Administrative Tools/Component Services/Computers/My Computer/COM + Applications

  2. Right-click the SEDataMigration COM Application to review the properties.

  3. On the Security page disable the Enforce access checks for this application.

Once installed you must enable Distributive COM, and disable the Access Checks for this application.

On the same machine that contains the application from which you are migrating, you need to place all files to be migrated in folder. This folder is known as the Server Working Folder. This folder must be shared and the user migrating must have Full Control of this folder.
