Create an exploded parts list

An exploded parts list shows all parts, subassemblies, and the parts they own in an indented format that mimics the model structure in Assembly PathFinder. You can choose level-based item numbers or flat list numbers.

  1. Choose the Home tab→Tables group→Parts List command .

  2. On the drawing sheet, select a drawing view of an assembly.

  3. On the Parts List command bar, click the Properties button.

  4. In the Parts List Properties dialog box, do the following:

    1. On the List Control page, select all of the following:

      • Show top assembly in list

      • Exploded list (all parts and subassemblies)

      • Use level based item numbers

        Tip:

Level based numbers are of the format 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2, 3. To use flat list numbers, leave this box unchecked.

    2. On the Columns page, do the following:

      1. From the Columns list, select Item Number.

      2. From the Data alignment list, select Indent.

  5. On the Parts List command bar, verify the following options are selected:

    • Auto-Balloon

    • Place List

  6. Move your cursor to the location on the drawing sheet where you want to place the parts list, and then click.

Tip:

  • If item numbers have been created in the assembly, you can reuse them in an exploded parts list. To do this, select the Use assembly generated item numbers check box on the Options page (Parts List Properties dialog box).

Using item numbers from the model ensures the parts list item numbers do not change unless the model does.

  • You can use the Assembly order sort criteria on the Sorting page (Parts List Properties dialog box) to sort the parts list in the same order as shown in Assembly PathFinder.

    Note:

Unless the assembly has been saved in V17 or later, the parts list order may not match the Assembly PathFinder order.

  • Instead of defining a custom exploded parts list style, you can select the default Solid Edge exploded parts list style from the Saved Settings list on the General page (Parts List Properties dialog box) or on the Parts List command bar.

  • An item number balloon that displays N/A represents a part that has been excluded using List Control.
